Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

I finished Clockwork Prince today, and it was fabulous!

We are taken on Tessa’s journey through 19th century London, where betrayal and deceit are around every corner. Friends become enemies, and some enemies become friends. But how does one know who to trust?

Mortmain and his clockwork army is becoming more and more of a threat, and unlikely enemies are formed. Charlotte Branwell must fight to keep the London Institute, while secrets are spilled.

I loved this book so much, and have already started Clockwork Princess. Tessa’s character is coming out of her shell a bit more, and Will and Jem both grow as characters. Our emotions are played with as Cassandra breaks our hearts through these wonderful characters. Tessa, Will and Jem are such an iconic trio, and I feel as if I have known them for forever.

Continuing on with Tessa, I feel as if she is completely different in this book (in a good way). For starters, she is not shocked by things anymore, and she seems to have found her place in the London Institute. She has been able to hold her own and can control many things. Though my heart is breaking for her over so many parts in this book.

Whereas in Clockwork Angel the story was more focused on the plot, in Clockwork Prince we are directed more towards the characters. Another thing that is different is the romance. In the first Infernal Devices book, there is not much romance, but in the second characters are coming together in many different ways, some of which are not to be expected.

I feel for Will so strongly; so much is revealed in this book that your heart will shatter. Will’s backstory was so sad in a way that I wish I could help him. And then we find out why he behaves as he does. I hope things so better for him in Clockwork Princess.

Jem has also developed a new side to him that we haven’t seen before. His love for various characters will touch your heart, but his condition is fatal. I wish for things to be better for him.

However, the side characters are just as interesting, with their story’s vital to the plot. I feel as if they don’t get nearly enough credit for the roles they play. Sophie especially.

I highly recommend this book, and give it 5/5 ⭐️ stars. It is a fabulous read, and the story will take you on a journey such as you’ve never been on before.
