Review: 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston

4/5 stars

This was absolutely the cutest book!! It's a relatively light read that was perfect for the holidays because there is lots of Christmas and holiday stuff going on! I appreciated that it was not emotionally taxing at all, because sometimes it's nice to read something that's not all heavy and depressing.

I love reading about big families, and 10 Blind Dates did not disappoint. Sophie is spending the holidays with her extended family, and when her long-time boyfriend breaks up with her, the family rallies around Sophie to make a plan that would send her on 10 blind dates throughout the holiday season.

There's a lot of characters, but after the first few chapters it's pretty easy to keep everyone straight. Everyone in Sophie's family was so idiosyncratic and fun, from her cousins who she used to be very good friends with and is now reconnecting with, to her multitude of aunts and uncles, to the matriarch of the family, her grandmother, who engineered this whole idea. 10 Blind Dates showed the importance of family, especially during the holidays, and it was so heartwarming to read!

The friendship between Sophie and her cousins, Olivia and Charlie, was just as prevalent and important as the romantic relationships, as Sophie, Olivia, and Charlie tried to renew their tight-knit childhood friendship.

All of Sophie's dates were so much fun to read. Some of them were genuinely cute and exciting, and some of them were just really funny! Throughout the book, Sophie remained optimistic, funny, and likable. She was a little basic, but still fun and interesting to read about, and I cared about her and what would happen to her.

The romance later in the book was a little clumsy and awkward at first because it seemed like the author was just pushing Sophie into it, but once I got used to the idea I liked it and it ended up being very cute and something I rooted for.

Overall, 10 Blind Dates was a heartwarming, funny, and light read about family, friendship, and romance that is ideal for the holidays, but is so good that you should read it any time too!
