Review: A Torch Against the Night (AEITA, #2)

Book Title: A Torch Against the Night

Author: Sabaa Tahir

Series: An Ember in the Ashes, Book 2

Published: 30th August, 2016

Synopsis:

Elias and Laia are running for their lives. After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own—one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape…and kill them both.

5 Amazingly, Well-Deserved Stars!!

Buddy Read with awesome Darcey in our Buddy Reads Group! Thanks for joining me with in this journey Darcey!

There are authors out there who love to play with your emotions, who love to case great hatred and love some characters and Sabaa Tahir is definitely one of them.

I really enjoyed this sequel. It was powerfully and beautifully written. I enjoyed going through what these characters felt and being there with them through it all. It was touching and it was also very painful to watch!

With Elias and Laia being fugitives on the ran, there isn’t much hope or help for them to cling to. They have enemies after them, some closer than others. It is soo suspenseful and heartbreaking to see what Elias, Laia and even Helene have to go through. With a war approaching, there are hard choices to make and I cried, screamed, pulled my hair as I watched and read how things were unfolding! This book will make you feel things in the worse and best possible way.

A great storyline, awesome characters and amazing world-building. Super hyped to read on and see how this series ends!

Stay safe!
