WARNING ( Spolierish)
Reading a book about monsters, gods, goddesses, and demigods is just what I needed. This was very fruitful and exciting i heavily enjoyed this book, I missed demigods and monsters. I knew I needed to start this series after finishing Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Rick Riordan is a genius when it comes to storytelling and world building, there are characters and events that happened in the Percy Jackson series that are referenced. I strongly recommend reading the Percy Jackson series before starting this series, the world will be less intimidating. Now we have a new set of characters and their adventures are beginning. What is this book about?
Three kids named Leo, Piper, and Jason are in for a dangerous adventure when things start to get eire. Jason wakes up on a school bus with no memory prior to waking up, not only that apparently he has a best friend named Leo and a girlfriend named Piper. Piper is harboring a huge secret, her famous dad has been kidnapped and she doesn’t understand who did it and why it happened. Leo is a gifted Mechanic and he keeps seeing ghosts from his difficult past: All of them realize that things feel very wrong, when a freakish incident happens on their school trip to the Grand Canyon, these three kids are sent to Camp Half Blood where they learn that things are worse than they thought. There is a curse, a goddess and a camper are missing. The three of them go on a adventure where they will encounter monsters, spirits, and much more.
The writing was essential Rick Riordan and I loved it, he has an amazing talent for taking stories from mythology and effortlessly weaving them into his writing. While reading this book I visualized as if the movie was playing in my head, the writing is very imaginative and detailed. Rick Riordan is very careful and precise when declaring the scenery and appearances of monsters. The writing flowed very well and I loved it. The world building as I mentioned before when amazing, I felt so much warmth when reading about Camp Half-Blood and all of the new and old friends we meet. The Plot was great, I have a feeling this series is going to be darker than the Percy Jackson series. The beginning books of the Percy Jackson series weren’t dark but the last two books especially Last Olympian were dark. I though the Titans were bad but in this book our heroes are going to face much worse.
The characters were a diverse bunch and I enjoyed very much. Piper was my favorite, I loved her being half Cherokee and reading about her identity and her Grandpa Tom. She was fierce, strong, level-headed, and smart. I really enjoyed her. Leo is such a bean, he is so gifted as a mechanic. He is very valuable and I’m glad he starts to feel that way. At times his Immaturity could be annoying but I still really liked him. Jason is interesting, he is a very complex and I knew from beginning there was something, turns out I was right is a way I was not expecting. He is very skilled and strong and natural leader. Not sure his to most clearly put it but curious about him. Seeing the relationship between Piper, Leo and Jason was very fun, they make a great team. My favorite moment would have to be when they took down the giant on the mountain. Loved seeing old faces especially Annabeth, Thalia, Chrion, and Rachel. Love how they were able to fit perfectly into the plot.
Another thing that I really liked was the Roman aspect that was added to the story. Seeing the difference between the Greek and Roman aspect of the god was highly interesting. I always thought that the only difference between the gods and their Roman and Greek aspects were their names but I was wrong. The personalities and values are also different, this was something I never knew before.
Overall this was a very fun book, the ending made me yearn for more. I listened to the audio book while reading which made it even better. If you want some more demigods and monsters after Percy Jackson, pick this book up.
